Family therapy is a collaborative process where I invite all family members to come together to address conflicts, improve relationships, and strengthen their bond with each other. Unlike individual therapy, family therapy focuses on the dynamics and interactions between each family member. The goal is not to assign blame but to create a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and understood.

Family therapy works because it addresses the relationships at the core of family dynamics. By creating a safe space where each family member can express themselves, therapy fosters understanding and empathy.

Through Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, attachment-based insights, and experiential techniques, your family can:

  • Break free from negative interaction patterns

  • Strengthen emotional bonds

  • Resolve misunderstandings and conflicts

  • Build trust, respect, and open communication

  • Create healthier, more fulfilling relationships

Family Therapy

Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) is grounded in attachment theory and focuses on strengthening the emotional bonds within the family. By identifying negative interaction patterns and fostering secure attachment, this approach helps family members create healthier, more supportive relationships. Research shows that EFFT is highly effective in resolving family conflicts and improving emotional connections.

Emotionally Focused Family Therapy

Attachment Theory

Attachment theory explores how our early relationships shape our ability to connect with others. In family therapy, we examine how attachment patterns impact communication and relationships within the family. By addressing these patterns, we work to repair fractures and build a foundation of trust and security.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy uses active, engaging techniques to explore emotions and dynamics within the family. Through guided activities or role-playing, family members gain new insights into their roles, emotions, and relationships. This hands-on approach promotes greater self-awareness and understanding among family members.

What Happens in a Family Therapy Session?

1. Initial Assessment

In the first session, we’ll explore the challenges your family is facing and identify your goals for therapy. Each family member will have an opportunity to share their perspective in a supportive and nonjudgmental space.

2. Exploring Dynamics and Patterns

Together, we’ll identify patterns of interaction that may be contributing to conflict or disconnection. Through the lens of attachment theory, we’ll examine how these patterns were formed and how they can be shifted.

3. Building Emotional Awareness

Using EFFT and experiential techniques, we’ll focus on understanding and expressing emotions in healthier ways. This often involves exploring deeper emotions beneath conflict and fostering empathy among family members.

4. Practicing New Skills

Sessions may include role-playing, communication exercises, or other experiential activities to help you practice new ways of relating to one another.
